Getting Started

Download the App

Download Disabled Directory free from Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iPhone). Search "Disabled Directory" or use the links on this website.

Browse Without an Account

You don't need to create an account to use the app. You can browse the entire directory, access crisis resources, and use most features immediately after downloading.

Create a Free Account (Optional)

Tap the profile icon in the top right of the home screen to create a free account. This unlocks the Community Forum, saving favorites, and Pro subscription features.

Agree to Terms

The first time you sign up or log in, you'll be asked to agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Read and tap "Agree & Continue" to proceed.

Accessibility Directory

Open the Directory

Tap the Directory tab (folder icon) at the bottom of the screen. The app will show listings near your detected location.

Search for a Business

Use the Search listings bar to search by business name, keyword, or type. Use the Search by city bar to narrow results to a specific city.

Filter by Category

Tap a category button at the top (Food, Retail, Hotels, Parks, Healthcare, Transport, etc.) to filter listings by type.

Change Your State

Tap the state indicator (e.g., "πŸ“ MO") and tap Change to select a different state. This shows listings from that state.

View a Listing

Tap any listing card to see full details including address, accessibility features, ratings, reviews, and a map link.

Save a Favorite

Tap the heart icon on any listing to save it to your favorites. Requires a free account. View saved favorites in your profile.

Crisis Resources & Emergency SOS

Access Crisis Resources

Tap the red Crisis Resources banner on the home screen, or go to More β†’ Crisis Resources. You'll see national and state-specific resources.

Call or Text a Hotline

Tap any resource card to call or text the hotline directly. Resources include 988 Lifeline, Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741), SAMHSA, Poison Control, and more.

Use the Emergency SOS Button

Tap the red SOS button in the top right of the home screen for emergency options. Choose from Call 911, Call Emergency Contact, Suicide Prevention Hotline, Crisis Text Line, or Share My Location.

⚠️ Important: The SOS button opens your phone's dialer or apps β€” you must press Send/Call to complete any call. The app does not automatically call 911.

Medical ID

Open Medical ID

Go to More β†’ Health Manager β†’ Medical ID tab, or tap the ID icon in the top right of the home screen.

Fill In Your Information

Tap Edit to fill in your name, date of birth, blood type, allergies, current medications, medical conditions, emergency contacts, and insurance information.

Save Your Medical ID

Tap Save when done. Your information is saved only on your device β€” it is never sent to our servers.

Export as PDF (Pro)

Pro subscribers can export their Medical ID as a PDF to share with doctors, hospitals, or caregivers. Tap the Export button on the Medical ID screen.

Add to Your Lock Screen

Tap Emergency Access Setup to learn how to add your medical info to your phone's lock screen so first responders can help you faster.

Pill Identifier

Open Pill Identifier

Go to More β†’ Health Manager β†’ Pill Identifier tab, or go to More β†’ Medication Tools.

Identify by Photo

Tap Camera to take a photo of your pill, or Gallery to upload an existing photo. Place the pill on a white background with good lighting for best results. Include both sides if possible.

Identify by Text Search

Use the Manual Search section to type the medication name, imprint code, or description (e.g., "oval white pill" or "Metformin 500mg"). Tap Search Medication.

Review Results

The AI will provide medication information including name, dosage, uses, and warnings. Results are informational only.

Tap the blue "Start a New Discussion" button to create a post. Choose a category, write your title and message, then tap Post.

Flag Inappropriate Content

Tap the flag icon on any post to report it to our moderation team. We review all reports promptly.

Block a User

Tap the 🚫 button on any post to block that user. Their posts will immediately disappear from your feed and our moderation team will be notified.

Blue Envelope Digital Card

The Blue Envelope program helps people with disabilities communicate their needs to law enforcement during police encounters. Your card is stored only on your device β€” never sent to any server.

Open Blue Envelope

Go to More β†’ Blue Envelope Card. The first time you open it you'll see a blank form to fill in your information.

Fill In Your Card

Enter your full name, select your disability type from the list, add your communication needs (e.g. "I communicate best with simple direct questions"), behavioral notes, emergency contact, and any medications that affect behavior.

Save Your Card

Tap Save Card. Your information is saved only on your device and is never sent to our servers.

Show Officer

During a police encounter tap the large blue SHOW OFFICER button. A full-screen blue card appears with your name, disability, and communication needs in large white text that an officer can easily read.

Tap to Call Emergency Contact

On the officer view screen your emergency contact number is tappable β€” the officer can call them directly if needed.

The DD Daily Planner is built around spoon theory β€” a way of describing the limited energy that people with chronic illness or disability have each day. Plan your day around your actual capacity, not what you "should" be able to do. No guilt. No broken streaks. Just support.

Set Your Energy Budget

At the top tap a spoon (πŸ₯„) to set your energy level for today on a scale of 1-10. This represents your available "spoons" for the day. You can change it anytime.

Add Tasks

Type a task in the input box and select its energy cost β€” Low (🟒 1 spoon), Medium (🟑 2 spoons), or High (πŸ”΄ 3 spoons). Tap Add. Your remaining spoons update automatically.

Check Off Tasks

Tap a task to mark it complete. Completed tasks are crossed out but stay visible. They disappear silently overnight β€” no celebration, no shame.

Use the AI Task Helper

Tap the AI Helper at the bottom. Type what you need to do today (e.g. "call doctor, do laundry, go to therapy") and Claude AI will break it into realistic steps based on your current energy level. Tap + Add to add any suggested steps to your list.

Medication Reminders

Medications you've entered in your Medical ID automatically appear as low-energy tasks in your planner each day.

Equipment Exchange

A free community marketplace to buy, sell, or donate used mobility and medical equipment. No payments go through the app β€” buyers and sellers contact each other directly.

Open Equipment Exchange

Go to More β†’ Equipment Exchange. Browse listings filtered to your state by default.

Browse Listings

Use the category filters (Wheelchair, Scooter, Walker/Cane, Hospital Bed, etc.) and condition filters to find what you need. Pro members' listings appear at the top.

Contact a Seller

Tap any listing to see full details and contact the seller directly by phone or email. All transactions happen outside the app.

Post a Listing

Tap + Post a Listing (requires a free account). Fill in the item name, category, condition, price (or free), city, contact method, and description. Optionally add a photo. Listings expire after 60 days.

Post a Job

Connect people who need caregiving help with local caregivers. Disabled Directory does not verify caregiver credentials. Always verify independently before hiring.

Open Caregiver Match

Go to More β†’ Caregiver Match.

Find a Caregiver

Tap the "I need a caregiver" tab. Filter by state, type of care needed, availability, and volunteer only. Tap any profile to see full details and contact the caregiver directly.

Become a Caregiver

Tap the "I am a caregiver" tab, then tap Create My Profile. Fill in your first name, types of care you offer, disability experience, availability, rate, background check status, and contact method.

Pause or Delete Your Profile

On your profile toggle the Active switch to pause your listing without deleting it. Tap Delete to permanently remove your profile.

Events default to your detected state. Filter by category, accommodation type, and date range. Tap any event to see full details.

Submit an Event

Tap + Submit an Event (requires a free account). Fill in the event name, date, time, venue, category, sensory accommodations offered, and an optional registration link. Events expire automatically after their date passes.

Accessibility Ratings

Rate the real-world accessibility of businesses in our directory. Help others know what to really expect before they visit.

Find a Listing

Open the Directory tab and tap any business listing to see its full details.

Tap Rate Accessibility

Scroll down in the listing detail and tap the β™Ώ Rate Accessibility button. You need a free account to submit a rating.

Rate the Features

Give an overall 1-5 star rating, then rate specific features as Yes / Partial / No: wheelchair ramp, accessible parking, accessible restroom, wide doorways, helpful staff, service animal friendly, good lighting, and low sensory environment.

Add a Review and Photo

Optionally add a written review and a photo of the accessibility features. Tap Save Rating when done.

Edit Your Rating

You can edit your rating anytime by tapping Rate Accessibility on the same listing. Your previous answers will be pre-filled.

Face ID & Fingerprint Login

You can sign in to the app using your face or fingerprint instead of typing your password. This makes it faster and easier to get into the app!

Sign In First

The first time, sign in using your email address and password like normal.

Say Yes to the Question

After you sign in, the app will ask: "Would you like to use Face ID next time?" Tap Yes to turn it on.

Use Your Face or Finger Next Time

The next time you open the app, you will see a button that says "Sign In with Face ID" or "Sign In with Fingerprint." Tap it and look at your phone or touch the fingerprint reader to sign in!

Turn It Off

If you want to turn off fingerprint login, go to the Settings tab at the bottom of the screen. Look for the Security section and tap the switch to turn it off.

Use the search box to search by name. Or tap a filter button to find creators by platform (YouTube, TikTok, etc.) or topic (Lifestyle, Education, Humor, etc.).

Tap on any creator to see their full profile. Then tap a button like "Follow on YouTube" to visit their page.

Add Yourself

Are you a disability content creator? Tap the Submit My Channel tab to add yourself! Fill in your name, what platforms you use, and a short description. We will review it and add you to the list.

Tap the + Add a Benefit button. Type the name of your benefit (like "SSI"). Choose whether it is Active, Pending, Denied, or Expired. You can also add the monthly amount and the date it needs to be renewed.

If any of your benefits need to be renewed within 30 days, you will see an orange warning at the top of the screen. This helps you remember so your benefits do not stop!

Ask a Question

Scroll down to the AI Benefits Helper. Type a question like "What is the income limit for SSI?" and tap Ask. The AI will give you a plain English answer.

Learn About Benefits

Scroll down to see a list of common disability benefits with phone numbers and websites. Tap the phone number to call for help.

Go to the More tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap Accessibility Alerts.

See Current Alerts

You will see a list of accessibility problems that other people have reported near you. Each alert shows the place name, what the problem is, and when it was reported.

Confirm an Alert

If you visit a place and the problem is still there, tap the πŸ‘ Confirm button. This tells other people the problem has not been fixed yet.

Mark as Fixed

If the problem has been fixed, tap βœ“ Mark Resolved. This helps other people know it is safe to visit now.

Report a New Problem

See an accessibility problem? Tap the red + Report an Alert button. Type the place name and address, choose what type of problem it is, and tap Submit. You need a free account to report problems.

The Veterans Hub is a free section of the app built specifically for disabled veterans. It has everything you need in one easy place. You do not need a Pro subscription to use any veteran features.

At the top of the screen tap the "I am a veteran" switch to turn it on. This gives you a gold VETERAN badge on your profile.

Access the Crisis Line

The red Veterans Crisis Line box is always at the top. Tap Call 988 Press 1 for immediate help. You can also tap Text 838255 or chat online.

Tap VA Facility Finder to find the nearest VA Medical Centers, Community Clinics, and Vet Centers near you. Tap Directions to get there.

Voice Control

Voice Control lets you use the app by speaking instead of typing. This is great for people who find typing difficult or painful.

Turn On Voice Control

Go to the Settings tab at the bottom. Scroll down to find Voice Control and tap the switch to turn it on. The app will ask for permission to use your microphone β€” tap Allow.

Look for the Microphone Button

When Voice Control is on, you will see a blue microphone button in the bottom right corner on screens that support it.

Tap the Microphone Button

Tap the microphone button and wait for it to start listening. You will see a pulsing animation β€” this means the app is ready to hear you.

Say a Command

Speak clearly and say one of these commands:

"Search [business name]" β€” searches the directory
"Search [city name]" β€” searches by city
"Add task [task name]" β€” adds to your Daily Planner
"Call 988" β€” opens the dialer
"Read screen" β€” reads the screen content aloud
"Navigate to [screen name]" β€” goes to a screen

Listen for Confirmation

The app will say the action out loud to confirm it heard you correctly. If it did something wrong, just tap the microphone again and try again.

Veteran Owned Businesses

You can filter the directory to show only veteran-owned accessible businesses. Support your fellow veterans!

Tap the Directory tab at the bottom of the screen.

Find the Veteran Owned Filter

Scroll through the category chips at the top of the screen and look for the πŸŽ–οΈ Veteran Owned chip.

Tap to Filter

Tap the πŸŽ–οΈ Veteran Owned chip to filter the directory. Only veteran-owned businesses will show. Tap it again to go back to showing all businesses.

Submit Your Veteran-Owned Business

Do you own an accessible veteran-owned business? Go to the Submit tab and fill in your business details. Make sure to turn on the Veteran-Owned Business? toggle before submitting!

Tap the + (Submit) tab at the bottom of the screen.

Search for the Business

Start typing the business name in the search bar. The app uses Google Places to find businesses β€” select the correct one from the dropdown.

Fill in Accessibility Details

Select the business category, add accessibility features (wheelchair ramp, accessible parking, roll-in shower, etc.), and add any additional notes.

Submit for Review

Tap Submit. Our admin team reviews all submissions before they go live. Thank you for helping grow the directory!

Cancel Anytime

Lock Screen Medical ID (Android)

Adding your medical info to your Android lock screen lets first responders help you faster in an emergency β€” no unlock required.

Open Emergency Access Setup

In the app go to More β†’ Health Manager β†’ Medical ID β†’ tap Emergency Access Setup.

Go to Android Settings

Open your phone's Settings app β†’ Lock screen (or Security & lock screen depending on your Android version).

Find Lock Screen Message or Emergency Info

Look for "Lock screen message", "Emergency information", or "Emergency contacts" β€” the name varies by Android manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, etc.).

Enter Your Medical Info

Type your key medical info: blood type, allergies, emergency contact name and number. Keep it brief β€” it needs to be readable quickly.

Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.

Go to Subscriptions

Tap your profile picture in the top right β†’ Payments & subscriptions β†’ Subscriptions.

Find Disabled Directory

Find Disabled Directory Pro in the list and tap on it.

Cancel Subscription

Tap Cancel subscription and confirm. You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period.

Installing on iPhone

Open the App Store

Open the App Store app on your iPhone or iPad.

Search for the App

Tap Search at the bottom, then search "Disabled Directory." Look for the app by Disabled Adventures LLC with the blue wheelchair icon.

Tap Get

Tap the Get button β€” the app is free. You may need to confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.

Tap Open in the App Store or find the Disabled Directory icon on your home screen.

Lock Screen Medical ID (iPhone)

iPhone has a built-in Medical ID feature in the Health app. Setting this up lets first responders access your medical info even when your phone is locked.

Open the Health App

Open the built-in Health app on your iPhone (red heart icon).

Tap Your Profile

Tap your profile picture or initials in the top right corner.

Tap Medical ID

Scroll down and tap Medical ID, then tap Edit to fill in your information.

Enable "Show When Locked"

Make sure the "Show When Locked" toggle is turned ON. This lets first responders access your info from the emergency screen.

Add Emergency Contacts

Scroll down to Emergency Contacts and add your primary contact. This person will be listed as someone to call in an emergency.

Cancel Pro Subscription (iPhone)

Open iPhone Settings

Open the Settings app (gray gear icon) on your iPhone.

Tap your name at the very top of Settings to open your Apple ID settings.

Scroll down and tap Subscriptions to see all your active subscriptions.

Find and Cancel

Tap Disabled Directory Pro, then tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. You keep Pro access until your paid period ends.

Restore Purchases (iPhone)

If you reinstalled the app or got a new iPhone and your Pro features aren't showing, restore your purchases:

Open Go Pro Screen

Tap the gold Upgrade to Pro banner on the home screen, or go to Settings β†’ Go Pro.

Tap Restore Purchases

Scroll down on the Go Pro screen and tap Restore Purchases.

Sign In to Apple ID

If prompted, sign in with the same Apple ID used when you originally purchased Pro.

Pro Features Restored
